Anishinabe Head Start:
Goal:
The goal of AHS is to provide early interventions in lives of children age 0-6 and their families through support of the six program components: promotion and protection of First Nations cultures and languages, nutrition, education, health promotion, social support programs; and parental and family involvement.
Objective:
Provide and assist in the development of "Health" services to reserve members for the education and promotion of living a health lifestyle by involving parents and community resources in the program.
Focus:
Foster positive strategies that aim to support early childhood development through the six program components as follows:
- Education: Ensure age appropriate motor development and cognitive skills occur through each stage of development.
- Parental: empower parents to understand a child growth and development and reinforce their roles as the primary teachers of the children.
- Cultural/Language: Ensure environmental exposure opportunities are available to children and caregivers to enhance learning capacity of culture/language.
- Health: Teach, model and encourage parents the basic tools that contribute to holistic health needs for the children.
- Social: ensure linkages and cooperation with other community programs and services to enhance the effectiveness of the growth and social development.
- Nutrition: assist families in meeting each child's nutrition needs and in establishing health-eating habits that nurture healthy development and promote health throughout the child's life.
